Sometimes I really feel like an old soul and making some homemade jam really does add to the old world charm. I was happy to discover over the Christmas break that we are lucky enough to have a plum tree in the backyard. I have been eagerly checking the fruit and hoping for it to ripen as the days and weeks have passed. Over the last week the time has come and I’ve been able to pick some of the fruit. I have had to fight with the birds though as they sure know the goods when they find it.
We have managed to get at least a few dozen good sized plums from the tree and I decided to make some jam to make sure we made the most of the fruit and this way it can last longer. It enjoy searching around and looking through the branches to find the fruit.
After searching around for a jam recipe besides just the fruit and sugar ones I created one myself with a few ingredients I had in the pantry and that I enjoy.
Here are the ingredients I used in the plum jam:
- 12-15 plums (halved)
- 1/2 cup of coconut sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons of black chia seeds
After 45 minutes on the stove top with a bit of stirring it turns into this glorious sticky and glistening jam and the plums have broken down.
Here is the end result, a delicious plum jam. Now, what to make to enjoy with my jam….
